Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 19, 2023, for our annual benefit ride to support our local Vinton Shellsburg United Special Olympics Team!All PROCEEDS REMAIN WITH OUR LOCAL VSU TEAM!!!If you don't have a motorcycle, no problem! Estate Sale Thursday-Saturday

There will be an Estate Sale at 805 West 17th St. in Vinton on Thursday, August 3 from 4 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 4th, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 5 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.There will be tools, quilts, antiques, vintage toys, furniture, kid's stuff, household items, holiday decor, and so much more!

National Night Out in Van Horne, Tuesday, August 1

The National Night Out is an event for citizens to meet those that work in the community and share a time of fun together. This free event will take place Tuesday, August 1st from 5-7 p.m. at the Van Horne City Park unless it rains, and in that case it will move to the Community Center.  Stop by to visit with several area organizations which include the Area Substance Abuse Council, the Benton County K9 Unit from the Sheriff's Department, Vinton and Belle Plaine Police Departments, Above the Influence and the newly formed Benton County Suicide Prevention Coalition.

Center Point Historical Society will host Railroad Program, August 13

The Center Point Historical Society will host "Swing and Sway: 170 Years of Railroading in Iowa” on Sunday, August 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum, 700 E. Washington St.This free talk will be presented by Marion historian David Wendell. Those in attendance will see model trains and historic railroad photos. The program is part of the Historical Society’s “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” 2023 displays.

The Cedar-Mt. Auburn Fire Department presents "Grillin' on the Mountain." Test Your Weed Identification Skills at the 2023 Iowa State Fair

Contest for those who want to hone their weed identification skillsThe annual Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Iowa State Fair Weed Identification Contest will be held on Friday, Aug. 11, from 9-11:30 a.m. in front of the John Deere Agriculture Building.Participants of all ages can test their knowledge of common weeds found in Iowa, by attempting to identify real weed samples, potted and on tabletop display.
